The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering a program on Situational Awareness: A Process Approach To Being Street Smart on Wednesday, June 6th.
The term paranoid usually triggers a negative character trait. However, when your work environment has the potential for violence, like that of social workers or anyone who works with the public, a little paranoia can be a good thing. Situational awareness empowers employees to be their own best advocates for safety. Employees can stop tragedy in its tracks by adopting a constant state of alertness and readiness for whatever situation might come their way. Situational awareness is the ability to: Observe; Orient; Decide; and Act. This session will cover some of the latest tactics developed to protect individuals in threatening situations.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking Committee is holding their third a series of woman’s networking luncheon programs for 2018 Tuesday, May 22nd from 12 noon to 1 pm at Vesuvio’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, located at 101 N. Wyoming Street in Downtown Hazleton. The event is being sponsored by Landmark Community Bank and it is open for any woman to attend.
The program will begin promptly at 12 noon and will include lunch. Our guest speakers are Ellen Leighton, Maria Bonin and Nicoline Evans from Landmark Community Bank who will speak on a variety of banking topics including the advantages of refinancing your mortgage at a better rate, which will decrease the term on your mortgage; advantages available to a first time home buyer; business checking accounts and how beneficial it is for a business to avoid charges to your account; investments on the return of your money and IRAs...traditional verse roth and return on your retirement funds.

Krista L. Schneider of the Downtown Alliance for Progress ( DHAP) has been selected as the recipient of the 2018 Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Athena Award, sponsored by Berger Family Dealership and Blaise Alexander Dealership.
Ms. Schneider is the Executive Director of DHAP since 2014, as well as one of the founding members of the non-profit that began work in earnest in the fall of 2013. The young organization has had substantial success including a comprehensive strategic plan for downtown revitalization to drive econonmic development and rehabilitaton of city’s core commercial district. Being designated as a Keystone Main Street by PA Department of Community and Economic Development, and receiving an award of the 6th best performing entity in the Commonwealth in 2017. Other highlights and successes under Krista’s leadership include, the City Arts Center initiative, work on establishing a city Park on Broad Street, renovating a blighted property for use as a new Penn State LaunchBox business incubator, as well as a $75,000 façade rehabilitation grant program for several properties downtown. Her work has resulted in an organization that has grown to over $1 million dollars in asset, with over $5 million dollars raised in public and private funding for downtown projects. The economic engine of DHAP work is evident in the 80 new business that have added more than 120 full-time equivalent jobs added in last four years.
