Ms. Rossanna Gabriel, Executive Director of the Hazleton Integration Project (H.I.P. Center), has been selected to receive the 2025 Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Athena Award, sponsored by Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton.
Ms. Gabriel started as a H.I.P. volunteer in 2013, was hired full-time in 2014, was promoted to Assistant shortly thereafter, and then promoted to Executive Director in 2020. She directs the work of five key programs and a multitude of community initiatives at the center. Her team consists of twenty full-time and part-time employees and 200+ volunteers.
Ms. Gabriel’s impact work includes: over 600 new American Citizens, over 150 English as a second language students per semester, and 700,000 meals served as part of the Food Insecurity Project, which started in May of 2023. These are just a few highlights of Ms. Gabriel’s work environment, where her creative thinking has provided pragmatic solutions to a variety of challenges in a rapidly changing work environment.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce has announced plans are well underway for their 133rd Anniversary and Executive Business Exposition, which is taking place on Thursday, May 15th at Capriotti’s, One Banks Avenue in McAdoo.
This is the Chamber’s largest event of the year. The presenting sponsor for this year’s event is once again, PPL.
In order to provide the opportunity for all Chamber members to take part in event, plenty of options are available, whether it is attending with a reservation, participating in the expo or as an event sponsor.
The event will kick off at 5 pm with a short program, recognizing the Chamber’s outgoing Board of Directors, and then, honoring the Athena Businesswoman of the Year, Rossanna Gabriel from the Hazleton Integration Project. The Athena Businesswoman of the Year award is sponsored by Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton. After the short program, which will take place in the Capella at Capriotti’s, attendees will then move to the main banquet facility for the Executive Business Exposition. The expo portion of the event will be a “Western Theme – Membership Roundup” and include hand-passed hors d’oeuvres, a 5-station meal and a cash bar. The Expo provides Chamber member businesses and attendees with an informal way to combine the social benefits of the evening, with the opportunity to see some of the goods and services available through local business.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber holds monthly Red Carpet breakfasts that feature local, state and federal elected officials with an opportunity to update the business community as well as a lively question and answer with the breakfast attendees.
The double shot that featured both Congressmen whose districts cover the Greater Hazleton Area was successful on many fronts. Thank you to Congressman Bresnahan and Congressman Meuser for splitting time and giving an inside perspective on critical topics impacting our nation in the early days of the new administration. The thoughtful questions included one from Keystone Job Corps Center related to the federal government's role in continuing to assist students in education and trade pursuit.

Senators Dave Argall and Lynda Schlegel Culver and Representatives Dane Watro and Jamie Walsh will host a roundtable to discuss the future of Penn State Hazleton on Thursday, April 10, from 1-3 p.m. at the Penn State LaunchBox, 13 West Broad Street in Hazleton.
The session will bring together educators, business leaders, alumni, and other stakeholders to discuss the impacts of a potential closure of our campus.
