Tim Friel, MD, Chair, Department of Medicine, appeared live on WFMZ-TV’s Channel 69 News at 10 Tuesday evening to urge the community to practice critical safety measures so that hospitals have the beds, equipment and staff available to treat all patients amid the latest wave of the pandemic. As Pennsylvania experiences a resurgence of COVID-19 cases with significantly higher daily case counts than in the spring and hospitalizations on the rise, the Wolf Administration has identified four new mitigation efforts, which Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine announced today.
“It is our collective responsibility to protect our communities and our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians from COVID-19 and to continue to work together to get through this pandemic. These targeted mitigation efforts, combined with existing ones, are paramount to saving lives and protecting our economy,” Gov. Wolf said. “The administration will continue to monitor the risks posed by COVID-19 across the commonwealth and will reinstate or institute new targeted mitigation tactics as necessary.”

The Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress is teaming up with several organizations to offer holiday events on December 4th that the public can participate in safely. This includes a Holiday Night Market starting at 5PM which will feature a limited number of vendors hosted by the Hazleton Art League inside the new Hayden Family Center for the Arts (31 W. Broad St.) to ensure social distancing, as well as an outdoor market surrounding the art center for those who want to do their shopping outdoors.
On Wyoming Street across from Frankie’s Pizzeria and Manuel’s Empanadas, Hazleton UNICO will be hosting Santa and Mrs. Claus for family photos with hot cocoa. “We are Hazleton” (City Council members) will be selling blue peace poinsettia flowers. There will also be several outdoor food vendors. All that Dancin’ and Voice by Angela students will perform, as will MPB Community Players, who will sing some old fashioned Christmas carols.
