The Greater Hazleton Chamber is proud to announce the 34th winner of the Athena Business Woman of the Year Award is State Representative Tarah Toohil.
The committee of judges reviewed the applications submitted on the basis of the three critical elements: excelling in professional endeavors, community service, and supporting and mentoring women.
Mary Malone, Chamber President noted “ The Chamber membership has many talented women business leaders who excel in their designated field of expertise. This year’s applications highlighted that talent pool.” The beautiful Athena Award, which is from the International Athena Association, is being sponsored for the first time this year by, Community Bank, N.A. Community Bank Pennsylvania President Barbara Maculloch, a past recipient of Athena award from the Wilkes Barre Chamber noted, “Tarah’s dedication to the youth of the community, and mentoring young girls to strive for their goals, was a key aspect of her application."
The award will be presented on Thursday, September 10, 2020 as part of the Chamber’s 128th annual meeting and business expo. Representative Toohil noted how proud she was to join a long line of strong women who have received the award in the past.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is seeking businesses to participate in the 2020 Greater Hazleton Job Fair which has been rescheduled from March to Thursday, September 17th. The job fair will also be held at a new location, the Laurel Mall, Route 93 in Hazleton 10 am to 4 pm.
This one-day event, will provide participating businesses with an informal, yet confidential forum to discuss career opportunities and options with hundreds of individuals from throughout the entire Greater Hazleton Area. Participating employers may accept resumes, offer information about career fields and employment opportunities, conduct interviews, promote your business and also seek for interns, summer employment, full and part time positions.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking Committee is holding a woman’s networking luncheon program on Tuesday, July 28th from 12 noon to 1 pm at Cusat’s Café, outdoor pavilion, located at 742 Alter Street in Hazleton. The event is being sponsored by Hazle Drugs and it is open for any woman to attend.
The program will begin promptly at 12 noon and will include lunch. Our guest speaker is Bill Spear, R.Ph, CCN, Clinical Pharmacist and Clinical Nutritionist of Hazle Drugs who will present on the Health Benefits of CBD.
Bill will discuss how CBD works, what conditions CBD can be used for and the different types and strengths of products available. He will also focus on how you can make sure that you are receiving a high-quality product and concerns about the use of CBD combined with other medications.
Dooprize drawings including, a free lunch for the next program and the opportunity to give an introduction of your business at the event will be drawn. Women are encouraged to bring along promotional items, such as business cards, brochures, giveaways, etc. to display on our business resource table.

Greater Hazleton is well-known as an area full of generous businesses and individuals who never hesitate to lend a hand to others when times are tough. That sense of community has been on full display during the COVID-19 pandemic as more than 60 patrons have donated to the Hazleton Area Small Business Emergency Relief Microgrant Program.
The Greater Hazleton COVID-19 Recovery & Resiliency (R&R) Task Force, which is constructed of business and industry leaders from throughout the area, established the microgrant program to help sustain small businesses in Greater Hazleton through this difficult time to ensure the resurgence of a vibrant local economy.
The crowdfunded donor campaign has raised more than $50,000 from local individuals, families, loyal customers, and other private corporations, including Cargill Meat Solutions, Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services, Lehigh Valley Health Network-Hazleton, the Hazleton Standard Speaker, the Hazleton Rotary Club, CAN DO and First Federal Charitable Foundation. Due to the generosity of the Greater Hazleton area, the Task Force was able to fund 85 small businesses within the region with microgrants, 59% of which were located directly in the City of Hazleton.
