The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce and the Lackawanna College Continuing Education Department are offering a Diversity in the Workplace training on Tuesday, October 23rd.
During this one-day program attendees will learn business practices that are culturally sensitive and inclusive. Participants will prepare themselves for managing the dynamic of differences, through self-awareness, identifying their cultural communication skills and the culture of the organization. The participants will explore diversity through deep and surface culture, be aware of their privilege and power, and develop skills to have greater insight into the social/cultural issues needed to affect positive change in their organization. And they will understand why it makes business sense to have employees become culturally competent.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking committee has recently awarded their eleventh annual Women’s Empowerment Grants. This grant was established to encourage women to pursue training or education that will help them start or advance a career. The target of the grant is women who are currently working and want to advance in their career through education or training; are returning to the workforce; or are seeking to change their current career path.
“The applications we received this year were all outstanding and we truly feel the recipients for this year’s grants will be empowered by receiving the assistance these grants are able to provide.” explains Leann Fallabel, Chamber VP of Marketing and Woman’s Networking Committee Coordinator.
The Women’s Networking Committee raises money for this grant throughout the year at their events including, evening networking mixers, an annual Ladies Night Out event, a holiday decorating contest and social and luncheon programs. Since the inception of this grant, the Chamber has been able to award 37 women, $32,000 in grant funds.

The Community Awareness Committee of the Greater Hazleton of Commerce invites the public to attend the 11th Annual Tastes of Greater Hazleton, which will be held this Sunday, October 14th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at a new location for 2018, the Laurel Mall in Hazleton.
Event coordinators have announced that three demonstrations will take place at the event and they will be provided by the Frankie’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, Four Blooms Restaurant and T. Verrastro Beer Distributor.
According to Anna Jean Onuschak of Top of the 80s Restaurant, event chairwoman, “We are thrilled to feature these three very talented, local chefs and business owners at our event. The attendees really look forward to seeing what they have to prepare and then having the chance to sample their dishes”
The event will feature a sampling of signature dishes and products restaurants and businesses from throughout Greater Hazleton.
