farmers market 2018The Downtown Hazleton Farmer's Market will kick off its seventh year on Friday, July 13th and continue every Friday through September 7th. This year’s sponsors include the Geisinger Foundation, the Hershey Foundation, the AllOne Foundation, and the Luzerne County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.

The market hours are 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. This year’s vendors will include Burger’s Farm, which will be selling fresh produce; Sugar & Loaf Bakery, which will be offering breads and other baked goods, Keiner’s Nursery & Apiary, which will be selling plants, locally produced honey, and honey made products; Carvanjo Farm, which will be selling handcrafted goat milk soap, and the Butler Township Community Garden (“Growing Markets” program), which offers all organic produce. Several special events are also planned, including weekly nutrition education and free cooking demonstrations featuring local seasonal produce (hosted by the Commission on Economic Opportunity-CEO).

New this year is a Health Fair that will take place in conjunction with the market, which will include a variety of health practitioners offering free health screenings and educational information on health and wellness each week. The opening day of the market will host Hazleton Eye Specialists, offering consultations on Vision Loss Prevention, the Hazleton Cancer Treatment Center, offering information on Cancer Treatment & Prevention, the Whole Life Center for Health, offering Spinal Screenings and Zyto Scans, and Geisinger Health and Wellness, who will be offering blood pressure screenings and skin cancer education.

Each week will feature different health practitioners offering different services, including spinal screenings, blood pressure screenings, dental health information, radiology and respiratory information, substance abuse and smoking cessation information, and nutrition and exercise information. Any health care providers still interested in participating in the Health Fair should contact the Chamber.

The PA Department of Agriculture’s Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers will be accepted by all produce vendors.

The market will take place at the corner of Broad and Laurel Streets along the new city park. A ribbon cutting will take place on Friday, July 13 Friday at 10:15 AM with Mayor Cusat to celebrate the market opening.

The Chamber of Commerce operates the market with the support of the Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress. Anyone interested in learning more about the market should contact the Chamber at 570-455-1509 for more information.
