The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering a seminar entitled Getting Started With Email Marketing. Karl Stearns, a Constant Contact Platinum Solution Provider and Authorized Local Expert, will present this live, guided demonstration on the tools and features inside Constant Contact’s email marketing system. In this time-efficient, highly practical session, you will learn the basics so you can get going with your own email marketing, including: setting up your Constant Contact account; creating an email campaign and editing a template; branding your emails with your logo, colors and photos; creating content that people want to receive and read; importing your email list into your constant database; getting new subscribers by adding sign-up boxes to your website and emails and tracking and interpreting your results.

Chamber Announces 9th Annual Tastes of Greater Hazleton Event Slated for October 16th

tastes promo resisizedThe Community Awareness Committee of the Greater Hazleton of Commerce announces the 9th Annual Tastes of Greater Hazleton. The event will feature a sampling of signature dishes and products from twenty restaurants and businesses from throughout Greater Hazleton.

It is open to the public and will take place on Sunday, October 16th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at the Health & Wellness Center at Hazleton, located at 50 Moisey Drive in Hazle Township. According to Anna Jean Onuschak, committee and event chair, “This has been a sell-out event since its inception, so we really encourage folks to purchase their tickets in advance, since typically we do not have many to sell at the door.”

The British Invasion Experience, Monsters of Rock Highlight Funfest 2016 Entertainment Schedule

NewBIEPicCROP5Monsters of Rock PhotoFunfest will celebrate the superheroes of rock and roll when The British Invasion Experience and Monsters of Rock take to the festival’s Premier Stage at Broad and Wyoming streets during Funfest 2016 on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11. Once again, Funfest entertainment will be spread out all along Broad Street with performances at three locations: the Premier Stage, the Church Street Performance Area near the intersection of Church and Broad streets and Pocket Park Stage in between Laurel and Wyoming streets, right across from Funfest Headquarters, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce office.

The British Invasion Experience will perform Saturday from 5-7 p.m. The band, which is based out of Maryland, pays tribute to The Beatles from their introduction on the Ed Sullivan Show throughout their career, ending on the roof top of Abbey Road Studios. The group also performs well known hits from other British groups such as The Dave Clark Five, The Hollies, The Zombies, The Yard Birds, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and many more, ending with the psychedelic era of such groups as Cream and Pink Floyd.

Funfest Car Show to feature classic cars, race cars

The 27th annual Funfest Car Show hits Hazleton’s main thoroughfare when car enthusiasts show off their prized wheels along Broad Street on Saturday, Sept. 10 from noon to 3 p.m. 
All classic cars, motorcycles and trucks are eligible for the event. All vehicles must be street legal, licensed and insured.


In addition to the traditional classic car show, race car drivers from Evergreen Raceway will be on hand all day on Saturday with as many as five cars, one each from the modified, street stock, factory stock, four cylinder and kids wheel divisions. The cars will be on display between Church and Laurel streets and the public will be allowed to sit in the cars and take pictures.
The car show will maintain the popular format that was developed several years ago. A panel of judges will select the twenty best cars and each owner will receive a trophy. Although there are no classes, cars will be rated on overall appearance or presentation based on five categories typically evaluated in car shows. The judges will also select the “Best in Show” and a special trophy will be presented to the winner of that category. Prizes will be given away at the conclusion of the car show Saturday evening but entrants must be present to win.

Chamber Announces Starting Assignments for Thursdays Golf Outing

136 local and regional golfers will tee off at 11:00 AM on Thursday for the 49th Annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing. The shotgun start tournament is scheduled to take place at 11 am at Edgewood by Sand Springs in Drums, with registration beginning at 9 am, and will feature trophies, prizes and awards.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is hosting two seminars on email marketing. The first one will take place on Wednesday, August 24th and is entitled Automate Your Marketing. The second one will take place on Thursday, September 1st and entitled Grow Your Email List. Attendees can take part in these seminars individually or both for a discounted price.

Chamber Golf Outing Set for August 18th Has Limited Space Available

Golf Outing & On-Course Business ExpoOnly a few openings remain for the 49th Annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing which will take place on Thursday, August 18th. The shotgun start tournament is scheduled to take place at Edgewood in Drums at 11 am.

Registration includes 18 holes of golf, cart, coffee, beverages and donuts prior to shotgun start, beginning at 9:30 am, on-course food, snacks and refreshments, cocktail and hors d' oeuvre reception immediately following the round of golf, buffet style dinner, hole in one contest, scoring, championship, first and second flight trophies, longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin awards, doorprizes for each golfer and more. There is also a $5000 putting contest, pot of gold contest and a 50/50 raffle which features over $2000 in prizes.

Chamber Seeking Candidates for Annual Business & Community Awards

Business & Community AwardsThe Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is now seeking nominations for their 15th Annual Business & Community Awards. The awards are given each year in order to recognize individuals and businesses, which help to promote and support the Greater Hazleton Area.

Nominations are being accepted for: Small Business of the Year; Large Business of the Year, Rocco Colangelo, Sr. Volunteer of the Year, Pride of Place, Healthy Workplace of the Year, Green Business of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

A business or individual may be nominated for an award or they can nominate themselves. Once the nomination is received by the Chamber, the nominee will be notified and asked to complete an official application. The applications are reviewed and scored by a volunteer committee, and all winners will be recognized at a special luncheon program, sponsored by Luzerne County Community College, to be held on Thursday, October 27th at 11:45 am Genetti’s in Hazleton.

Recently, the Chamber highlighted the premier sponsorship that is provided by Hazleton Automobile Trade Association. According to Downtown chairman Bill Spear, “We are extremely grateful for the Hazleton Automobile Trade Association’s support and commitment to assist us in highlighting our area through this very visible, family friendly event.” Spear continues, “Typically over 200 vehicles participate in the Cruise each year and we expect just as many, if not more, for this year’s event.”

The deadline of July 29th is approaching for the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking ninth annual Women’s Empowerment Grant. This grant was established to encourage women to pursue training or education that will help them start or advance a career. The target of the grant is women who are: currently working and want to advance in their career through education or training; returning to the workforce; and/or seeking to change their current career path and pursue something more in line with their
interests or passions. The grant is also intended to be available to those who would not necessarily have access to scholarships or grants. For this reason, graduating high school students will not be eligible to apply for the grant.

Chamber Launches Brand New Website to Better Serve Our Members

Chamber HomepageKeeping up the latest in internet technology, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce recently launched a newly designed website that is responsive for viewing on all of today’s devices, including popular tablets and smartphones.

The new site offers members and others updated information about Chamber and community events and a wealth of other information including membership, a directory of Chamber members and an online version of the Chamber’s most recent Image Book.

The new website was developed and designed by Precision Design, a Hazleton web design, marketing, advertising and public relations firm that has more than 20 years experience and more than 12 years representing the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce.

Downtown Farmer’s Market Seeking New Vendors

The Downtown Hazleton Farmer's Market, soon to be kicking off its fifth year, is seeking new vendors to expand the diversity of market offerings. Previous year’s vendors have included Burger’s Farm, 2014 08 01 10.46.52O’Hara’s Orchard, The Good Hive (honey and honey-made products), Paula’s Patisserie, the Butler Township Community Garden (Growing Markets program), and Atomic Hog Pit BBQ. Featured food trucks and non-profit and educational institutions, including the PSU Master Gardeners and McCann School of Business have also participated in the past, whether offering ice cream, gardening workshops, or even free chair massages.

“It would be great if we could add some additional vendors this year,” said Chamber President Mary Malone, especially jam, jellies, juices, or even food trucks. Artists and crafters are also welcome.” The Chamber of Commerce operates the market with the support of the Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress.

This year the market will again take place every Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, mid-July through early September. Vendor fees are only $50 for the season, which covers the city’s business license, plus whatever costs are associated with obtaining the vendor liability insurance. Vendors selling pre-packaged or ready to eat foods are also responsible for obtaining appropriate licensing/registration from the PA Department of Agriculture. Necessary forms and additional information can be found on the Alliance’s website

The market has been growing in popularity with local residents, downtown workers, and seniors who are eligible for Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) vouchers. This SFMNP was established in 2002 by the Federal and State Dept. of Agriculture to assist seniors in obtaining fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables and to increase sales and awareness of the farmers markets in the local area.

CHAMBER ELECTS DONNA BARNA CHAIR AND WELCOMES NEW DIRECTORS AND OFFICERS

donnabarnaDonna Barna was elected as the volunteer Chair of the Board of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce at a reorganization meeting of the organization in early April. Allen Wagner will serve as Immediate Past Chairman and Mary R. Malone will serve as President of the organization.

Ms. Barna, the President of Billig-Helmes Insurance Agency, is the 5th generation of a family-owned insurance agency operating in the Hazleton Area since 1902. She serves as a director on the CAN DO Board, Hazleton Public Library and both Hazleton Rotary Club and Foundation to name a few. Donna was elected to the Chamber Board in 2012, and has a Vice Chair, leading the activities of the Community Awareness Committee since 2014. She has been very active in the successful development and growth of Women's Networking committee as well.

Chamber’s Annual Dinner & Executive Business Exposition Scheduled for May 19th

cruiseInvitations have been mailed for the 124th Annual Dinner & Executive Business Exposition of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce. This is the Chamber’s largest event of the year with over 300 business people in attendance. The event will take place on Thursday, May 19th, 2016, at a new location for 2016, Sand Springs Country Club in Drums beginning at 5 pm. The theme for this year event is Cruise Your Way Around Our Membership.

Chamber Hosting 12th Annual Icebreaker Golf Outing

Icebreaker promoThe Valley Country Club will be the site of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce 12th Annual Icebreaker Golf Outing. Geisinger is the premiere sponsor for the event. 

The outing is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 29th with an 11am luncheon and a 12 noon tee off. Registration, which is $75 per player and includes a buffet lunch, round of golf with cart, and a drink voucher after the round of play.

Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Announces Twentieth Annual Community Reading Day on April 28th

readingCommunity Reading Day helps to promote literacy and encourage life-long reading and imagination with our next generation. That’s the message the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is sending through its partnership in the 20th annual Community Reading Day program, supported by Penn State Hazleton. This event will be held on April 28th beginning at 9:30 a.m. in first and second grade classrooms in the Hazleton Area School District, Holy Family Academy and chamber member preschools.
