Nominations for the annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce/ Berger Family Dealerships "Athena Award" are now being accepted.
The award is presented annually to the "Businesswoman of the Year" in the Greater Hazleton Area. The presentation, which features a handsome bronze and crystal sculpture, is presented as part of the Chamber’s Annual Meeting and is sponsored by Berger Family Dealerships. This year, the award will be presented on Thursday, May 18th at the 125th Anniversary, to take place at the Genetti’s Ballroom.
The Chamber "Athena" award will be given to the businesswoman who has demonstrated the "highest level of professional accomplishment" and is based primarily on professional competency, achievement and dedication. According to Chamber officials the "Athena" award is not intended to be a civic achievement award, but a meaningful recognition of women as an integral part of the Hazleton Area workplace.

Kevin O’Donnell, president of Greater Hazleton CAN DO, the area’s economic/industrial corporation, will address the business community on Wednesday, March 22nd at the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Breakfast program. He will discuss the history of the organization as they’ve recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Mr. O’Donnell will also provide a look into the future of economical and industrial development in the greater Hazleton area. Attendees will also have the opportunity for a question and answer session at the end of his presentation. The breakfast program is sponsored by Luzerne Bank, and will take place at Top of the 80’s, Hazleton.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering Roadway Flagger Certification Training on Thursday, March 9th.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Publication 213 requires that all individuals who have flagging responsibilities on ANY ROAD OPEN TO THE PUBLIC must be certified in compliance with the most current version of Publication 408, Section 901.3 Flagger Training. This requirement applies to anyone performing flagging duties on any public roadway in Pennsylvania.
