The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering a seminar entitled Writing a Business Plan on Wednesday, September 27th.

Writing a professional business plan can be a monumental task since venture capitalists, those who will examine your plan, have great expectations. During this workshop, Maria Jacketti CEO of Mountain Laurel Copywriting and Content Creation, presents the audience with all the sections of a business plan that must be completed. She shows participants how to approach the task with concision, but without cutting corners. She will point out all the pitfalls that could get any business plan thrown into the garbage.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering a program on Evaluating Your Workers Comp Claims, Worker Ergonomics & Productivity Improvement on Wednesday, September 13th. The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering a program on Evaluating Your Workers Comp Claims, Worker Ergonomics & Productivity Improvement on Wednesday, September 13th.

This program will explore how Physical Demands Validation (PDV) lead to a variety of safety tools including ergonomic, safety training, wellness and functional testing programs. Attendees will learn about the different types of functional testing programs, how each tests physical ability differently and how the clinical examination portion of the test may differ between types of programs. Each of these aspects plays an important role in mitigating risk. You will understand how PDV and Function Testing can help to decrease absenteeism and presenteeism, increase productivity, decrease injury rates and be an essential part of your safety and wellness strategy.

Hazle Township Supervisor Jim Montone to Speak at Red Carpet Breakfast

Continuing with the chamber’s legislative series, Hazle Township Supervisor and Chairman Jim Montone will address the business community on September 21st at the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Breakfast program. He will provide an update of the township’s current and future projects. Attendees will also have the opportunity for a question and answer session at the end of his presentation. The breakfast program is hosted by Bonanza Steakhouse, 574 Susquehanna Blvd., located across from the Laurel Mall in Hazle Township.

The program will begin at 7:45 a.m. and conclude at 9:00 a.m. A full breakfast will be served at the upcoming breakfast program for a $20 fee for chamber members and a $25 fee for non-chamber members. Chamber Hosting Seminar on Time Management for Small Businesses

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering a seminar on Time Management for Small Businesses on Thursday, September 7th. Cindy Milan-Ortiz, Assistant Branch Manager at Woodforest National Bank will discuss the concept of time management, why it is important to small businesses and how you can benefit from using time management.

She will also explain some commonly employed time management practices, including Pareto analysis, the ABC method, the Eisenhower method and the POSEC method and how you can incorporate any of these methods easily into your daily business routine.

The seminar will take place on Thursday, September 7th from 9 am to 10 am at the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce office, which is located inside Hayden Tower at 8 W. Broad Street, Mezzanine Level Suite 1490 in Downtown Hazleton. Registration is $10 for Chamber members and $15 for non Chamber members. The Community Awareness Committee of the Greater Hazleton of Commerce is currently looking for any restaurant or catering facility to participate in the 10th Annual Tastes of Greater Hazleton. The event features a sampling of signature dishes and products from restaurants and businesses from throughout Greater Hazleton.The Community Awareness Committee of the Greater Hazleton of Commerce is currently looking for any restaurant or catering facility to participate in the 10th Annual Tastes of Greater Hazleton. It is scheduled to take place Sunday, October 15th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at the Health & Wellness Center at Hazleton, located at 50 Moisey Drive in Hazleton, entrance across the street from Walmart.
The opportunity is open to any restaurant or catering facility from throughout Greater Hazleton. There is no registration fee for Chamber member businesses and a $150 fee for non Chamber member businesses, however if the business would join the Chamber by the date of the event, the cost could be credited toward Chamber membership.

Chamber Golf Outing & On-Course Expo Set for August 17th Has Limited Space Available

Chamber Golf Outing Only a few openings remain for the 50th Annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing which will take place on Thursday, August 17th. The shotgun start tournament is scheduled to take place at Edgewood in Drums at 11 am. Downtown Hazleton Farmer’s Market Opens This Friday, July 14

The Downtown Hazleton Farmer's Market will kick off its sixth year this Friday, July 14th and continue every Friday through September 1st. The market hours are 10 am to 2 pm. The market will take place at the corner of Broad and Laurel Streets along the new city park.

This year’s vendors include Burger’s Farm Market, offering fresh produce along with their famous sweet corn; Sugar & Loaf Bakery, offering homemade breads and other baked goods, Keiner’s Nursery & Apiary, offering plants, locally produced honey, and other honey-made products; and the Butler Township Community Garden (“Growing Markets” program), offering all organic produce. Other vendors include the PSU Master Gardeners, who will be on hand to answer all your gardening questions. Several special events are also planned, including free cooking demonstrations featuring local seasonal produce (hosted by the Commission on Economic Opportunity-CEO), as well as entertainment and guest vendors who will be offering special services.

Friday will feature a special kickoff for market and will include DJ Tony Pacelli, who will be spinning tunes from 11 am to 1:30 pm for your lunchtime enjoyment. A ribbon cutting will take place at 10 am with Hazleton Mayor Jeff Cusat in order to celebrate the market opening. The Chamber of Commerce operates the market with the support of the Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress. Chamber Women’s Networking Committee Announces Applications Are Available for Women’s Empowerment Grant

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking committee is currently seeking applications for the tenth annual Women’s Empowerment Grant. This grant was established to encourage women to pursue training or education that will help them start or advance a career. The target of the grant is women who are: currently working and want to advance in their career through education or training; returning to the workforce; and/or seeking to change their current career path and pursue something more in line with their
interests or passions. The grant is also intended to be available to those who would not necessarily have access to scholarships or grants. For this reason, graduating high school students will not be eligible to apply for the grant.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Human Resource Committee has announced their Twelfth Annual Human Resource Seminar. This seminar is geared toward anyone in the human resource field, as well as small to mid-size business owners or anyone else who is interested in learning more about the topics being offered. Four program topics include: “The Trump Presidency and Its Impact Upon Labor and Employment Law: Expectations and Speculations”, Opioid Addiction, Pitfalls in Plan Administration and Effective Performance Management.

The seminar is scheduled to take place on Thursday June 1st at Capriotti’s, One Banks Avenue in McAdoo from 9:15 am to 2:30 pm.

Carla Marie Thaller Selected as Chamber’s 2017 Athena Recipient

2017 Athena Business Woman of the Year Carla Marie Thaller of the Hamister Group, LLC has been selected as the recipient of the 2017 Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Athena Award, sponsored by Berger Family Dealerships.

Carla is the Regional Director Operations, Hotels for the Hamister Group that operations three premier hotels in our area including; Residence Inn by Marriott, Fairfield Inn & Suites and Hampton Inn. She has an award winning hospitality career for over 15 years in positions with impact in the areas of administation, sales, customer service, hotel operations and facilities management.

Ms. Thaller started in her career as a front desk person while she was a full time student at King’s College. She graduated from King’s with a bachelor degree in Accounting and quickly advanced to supervisor and then manager for mutiple properties including Residence Inn by Marriott, Hampton Inn and Fairfield Inn & Suites.

Chamber Icebreaker Golf Outing Winners Announced

The two-man team comprised of Tom Ciccarelli and Matt Diebert from Valley Country Club took the Chamber’s first place award during the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce 13th Annual Icebreaker Golf Outing Friday, April 28th at Mountain Valley Golf Course in Barnesville.

Chamber Hosting Seminar on 5 Dysfunctions of a Team

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering a seminar entitled 5 Dysfunctions of a Team on Wednesday, April 26th.

Ken Altenbach from Team Building US will introduce the Team Building US 5 Dysfunctions of a Team Program. The program will cover inattention to results, avoidance of accountability, lack of commitment, fear of conflict and absence of trust and it will be followed by Q&A session. Those who should attend include: anyone in a leadership position, anyone who manages a team or anyone aspiring to lead a stronger team.

Lehigh Valley Health Network Hazleton President to Speak at Chamber Breakfast

John Fletcher, president of Lehigh Valley Health Network-Hazleton, will address the business community on Friday, April 21st at the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce monthly Red Carpet Breakfast program. He will discuss their plan for a major expansion of services in the city of Hazleton as well as Hazle and Butler Townships. Mr. Fletcher will elaborate on the networks strategy to focus primarily on outpatient services while maintaining and modernizing the hospital.

Attendees will also have the opportunity for a question and answer session at the end of his presentation. The breakfast program will take place at Genetti Catering in Hazle Township.

Chamber Hosting 13th Annual Icebreaker Golf Outing

Mountain Valley Golf Course will be the site of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce 13th Annual Icebreaker Golf Outing. Geisinger is the premiere sponsor for this event.

The outing is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 28th with an 11am luncheon and a 12 noon tee off. Registration, which is $75 per player and includes a buffet lunch, round of golf with cart, and a drink voucher after the round of play.

Championship and Flight awards will be provided as well as awards for longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin. Deadline for registrations is Friday, April 21st.

Chamber Hosting Seminar on Social Media Wednesday

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering a seminar entitled The Socializer One this Wednesday, April 12th.

Jeannine Lesante-Mazurkiwecz, VP of Marketing/Sales from Sam-Son Productions Inc will present The Socializer One. Attendees will learn what form of social media are the most effective for their businesses and how video can increase your bottom line. Attendees are asked to bring along their phones or electronic devices since this session will be interactive and engaging.

The seminar will be from 9 am to 10 am at the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce office, 20 W. Broad Street in Downtown Hazleton. Chamber Recruiting Volunteers for the "Great American Cleanup in Greater Hazleton"

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, along with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will once again sponsor the "Great American Cleanup” campaign. The one-day cleanup will be conducted Saturday, April 22nd. If volunteer groups cannot pick up on the 22nd, they can gather either on Friday the 21st or Sunday the 23rd. Groups are asked to leave bags along the cleaup route and PennDOT and local municipatlies will pick up the bags on Monday, April 24th. Garbage bags, safety vests, gloves a certificate of particpation and some goodies are provided to all the volunteer groups and can be picked up at the Chamber office from 8 am to 5 pm the week of April 17th.

"The Great American Cleanup" is a statewide effort designed to encourage concerned citizens and groups to participate in a meaningful community beautification effort. The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is the local coordinator for the Greater Hazleton Area.

Chambers Invites All Women to 11th Annual Ladies Night Out

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking Committee is hosting their 11th Annual Ladies Night Out and all women from throughout the Greater Hazleton Area are invited to attend. The event, sponsored by Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton and Capriotti’s, will take place on Wednesday, April 5th from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Capriotti’s in McAdoo.

“The theme of the evening is networking, relaxation, shopping & self-indulgence, and we are inviting all women to attend this fun-filled, popular, one-night event”, explains Chamber Vice President of Marketing, Leann Fallabel.

Greater Hazleton Job Fair Happening Thursday, March 30th

Greater Hazleton Area residents looking for new and/or improved employment opportunities are invited to take part in Greater Hazleton Job Fair 2017, the twenty-first annual free employment exposition taking place Thurday, March 30th at Genetti Ballroooms Route 309 in Hazleton from 10 am to 4 pm.

Firms participating in Job Fair 2017 will be on hand to locate full, part-time, temporary or summer workers and to promote various educational and career opportunities. Job seekers are encouraged to attend the fair prepared to complete applications and/or with resumes in-hand.

Chamber Announces Twenty-first Annual Community Reading Day on April 27th

Community Reading Day helps to promote literacy and encourage life-long reading and imagination with our next generation. That’s the message the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is sending through its partnership in the 21st annual Community Reading Day program, supported by Penn State Hazleton. This event will be held on April 27th beginning at 9:30 a.m. in first and second grade classrooms in the Hazleton Area School District, Holy Family Academy and chamber member preschools. The chamber organizes this annual event as part of their ongoing efforts to encourage business/education partnerships.

Chamber Announces Plans are Underway for Their 125th Anniversary & Executive Business Exposition

125th Chamber Anniversary The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce has announced plans are underway for their 125th Anniversary and Executive Business Exposition, which is taking place on Thursday, May 18th at Genetti Ballrooms in Hazleton from 5 pm to 8 pm. This is the Chamber’s largest event of the year with well over 300 business people in attendance, up to 50 businesses taking part in the expo and over a dozen businesses participating as event sponsors. The presenting sponsor for this year’s event is once again, PPL.

To help celebrate this special anniversary, Chamber officials have completely re-vamped the event, with a fresh, new format for 2017. In order to provide the opportunity for all Chamber members to take part in event, plenty of options are available, whether it is attending with a reservation, participating in the expo or as an event sponsor.

"Athena" Award Nominations Being Accepted by the Chamber

Athena Nominations Nominations for the annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce/ Berger Family Dealerships "Athena Award" are now being accepted.

The award is presented annually to the "Businesswoman of the Year" in the Greater Hazleton Area. The presentation, which features a handsome bronze and crystal sculpture, is presented as part of the Chamber’s Annual Meeting and is sponsored by Berger Family Dealerships. This year, the award will be presented on Thursday, May 18th at the 125th Anniversary, to take place at the Genetti’s Ballroom.

The Chamber "Athena" award will be given to the businesswoman who has demonstrated the "highest level of professional accomplishment" and is based primarily on professional competency, achievement and dedication. According to Chamber officials the "Athena" award is not intended to be a civic achievement award, but a meaningful recognition of women as an integral part of the Hazleton Area workplace.

CAN DO to Speak at Chamber Red Carpet Breakfast

CAN DO Kevin O’Donnell, president of Greater Hazleton CAN DO, the area’s economic/industrial corporation, will address the business community on Wednesday, March 22nd at the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Breakfast program. He will discuss the history of the organization as they’ve recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Chamber Hosting Required Roadway Flagger Certification Training

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering Roadway Flagger Certification Training on Thursday, March 9th.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Publication 213 requires that all individuals who have flagging responsibilities on ANY ROAD OPEN TO THE PUBLIC must be certified in compliance with the most current version of Publication 408, Section 901.3 Flagger Training. This requirement applies to anyone performing flagging duties on any public roadway in Pennsylvania.

Officials coordinating the Greater Hazleton Job Fair 2017 have announced that the event, scheduled for Thursday, March 30th has 34 businesses participating to date and there is limited space remaining for additional businesses.

Funfest announces Frozen Movie and Breakfast fundraiser set for Feb. 26

Frozen Movie and Breakfast It’s hard for everyone to “let go” of a classic Disney movie; that’s why Funfest is bringing one back for a special showing.

Back by popular demand, a Sing-Along Movie and Breakfast fundraiser featuring Disney’s mega-hit Frozen will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 9 a.m. The event is hosted by the Cinema & Drafthouse, 31 West Broad Street in West Hazleton, and all proceeds benefit Funfest 2017, which is set for Sept. 9 and 10 in downtown Hazleton.

State Senator John Yudichak to Speak at Chamber Red Carpet Breakfast

Continuing with the chamber’s legislative series, PA Senator John Yudichak will address the business community on Thursday, February 16th at the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Breakfast program. The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is seeking businesses to participate in the 2017 Greater Hazleton Job Fair set for Thursday, March 30th. The job fair will be held at Genetti Ballrooms on Route 309 in Hazleton from 10 am to 4 pm.

Chamber Hosting Seminar on Grant Writing

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering a seminar entitled The Foundations of Grant Writing on Wednesday, January 25th.

Maria Jacketti, CEO of Mountain Laurel Copywriting and Content Creation will explain the fundamentals of grant-writing, while delivering a forecast for national, state and private-sector grant writing.

During the 1990s, Jacketti and her husband, Wayne C. Funk successfully wrote nearly $10 million in grants in health care and education. Over a generation, some critical aspects of grant writing have changed while other hurdles of these fiscal quests remain constant.

Chamber Hosting Required First Aid / CPR / AED Training

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering First Aid / CPR / AED Training on Wednesday, January 11th.

Every workplace is required to have a complement of employees trained in First Aid/CPR/AED, should a medical emergency occur. This course is being offered for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED used to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. This American Heart “HeartSaver” instruction, a comprehensive course taught in a dynamic, hands-on way with industry-leading curriculum and content from the expert in occupational first aid training. Participants will learn to: recognize a medical emergency, handle breathing and cardiac emergencies, act appropriately and effectively and sustain life until professional help arrives, prevent disease transmission and identify and care for bleeding, sudden illness and injuries. Those who would benefit from this course include: emergency response teams, safety personnel, supervisors, individuals requiring CPR certification and the general public.

Chamber Downtown Holiday Promotion Kicks Off at Chaskin Jewelers

Downtown Holiday Promotion Kicks Off The holiday season is just around the corner, and the downtown committee of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is planning to make this holiday season in center-city one of the best in years.

The 2016 downtown Hazleton holiday promotion begins on Wednesday, November 23rd and will continue for three weeks. Participating businesses will contribute $10 which collectively with other downtown merchants creates four $50 prizes consisting of five $10 “Downtown Bucks” certificates. In addition, the Wiltsie Center has generously donated two tickets to the Twelve Twenty Four show as an additional prize. The show will take place on December 28th beginning at 7pm at The Wiltsie Center, 700 North Wyoming Street, Hazleton. Plus, as an added bonus, Chaskin Jewelers will contribute the grand prize, a $100 gift certificate which could be used at their store in honor of their 100th year in business.

Chamber Women's Holiday Social Set for Thurs, Dec 8th

The winners of the 12th Annual Holiday Decorating Contest will be announced at the social, with the Grand Prize to be chosen by those attending the event. The Grand Prize will be free commercial production, for a spot to be used exclusively on WYLN TV 35 ($450 value) AND one-month free Late Edition Commercial Package (value $395). This is the ninth year in a row WYLN TV 35 has provided a prize for the Chamber’s annual decorating contest. Transportation Projects is the Focus of Chamber Breakfast Program

Chamber Mixer to be Held November 2nd

FNCB Bank Mixer FNCB Bank is sponsoring an exclusive Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Networking Mixer on Wednesday, November 2nd from 5 pm to 7 pm at their Downtown location, 340 West Broad Street. Chamber Hosting Required Roadway Flagger Certification Training

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is offering Roadway Flagger Certification Training on Thursday, November 3rd.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Publication 213 requires that all individuals who have flagging responsibilities on ANY ROAD OPEN TO THE PUBLIC must be certified in compliance with the most current version of Publication 408, Section 901.3 Flagger Training. This requirement applies to anyone performing flagging duties on any public roadway in Pennsylvania.

Tickets Available for Tastes of Greater Hazleton This Sunday

The Community Awareness Committee of the Greater Hazleton of Commerce invites the public to attend the 9th Annual Tastes of Greater Hazleton, which will be held this Sunday, October 16th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm at the Health & Wellness Center at Hazleton located on 50 Moisey Drive.

Tickets are $18.00 in advance (available only online) and $20 at the door.

Three cooking demonstrations will take place at the event. Chef Steve Foley and Jerry Seiwell from Brass Buckle Restaurant will start things off, followed by Sous Chef Jeffrey Wallace of Sand Springs Country Club and the final demonstration will be Chef Jeff Keller from Top of the 80’s Restaurant.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of their Annual 2016 Business and Community Awards. In an attempt to help promote October as “Chamber of Commerce” month, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce will hold a special awards luncheon, sponsored by Luzerne County Community College, to recognize the winners of the awards. The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is kicking off October as Chamber of Commerce Month, and in doing so, they are holding an event to recognize several long-standing members who are celebrating a special anniversary with the organization in 2016. The 2nd Annual Anniversary Membership Celebration will take place on Thursday, October 6th. The British Invasion Experience, Monsters of Rock Highlight Funfest 2016 Entertainment Schedule

NewBIEPicCROP5 Monsters of Rock Photo Funfest will celebrate the superheroes of rock and roll when The British Invasion Experience and Monsters of Rock take to the festival’s Premier Stage at Broad and Wyoming streets during Funfest 2016 on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11. Once again, Funfest entertainment will be spread out all along Broad Street with performances at three locations: the Premier Stage, the Church Street Performance Area near the intersection of Church and Broad streets and Pocket Park Stage in between Laurel and Wyoming streets, right across from Funfest Headquarters, the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce office.

The British Invasion Experience will perform Saturday from 5-7 p.m. The band, which is based out of Maryland, pays tribute to The Beatles from their introduction on the Ed Sullivan Show throughout their career, ending on the roof top of Abbey Road Studios. The group also performs well known hits from other British groups such as The Dave Clark Five, The Hollies, The Zombies, The Yard Birds, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and many more, ending with the psychedelic era of such groups as Cream and Pink Floyd.

Funfest Car Show to feature classic cars, race cars

The 27th annual Funfest Car Show hits Hazleton’s main thoroughfare when car enthusiasts show off their prized wheels along Broad Street on Saturday, Sept. 10 from noon to 3 p.m.
All classic cars, motorcycles and trucks are eligible for the event. All vehicles must be street legal, licensed and insured.

In addition to the traditional classic car show, race car drivers from Evergreen Raceway will be on hand all day on Saturday with as many as five cars, one each from the modified, street stock, factory stock, four cylinder and kids wheel divisions. The cars will be on display between Church and Laurel streets and the public will be allowed to sit in the cars and take pictures.
The car show will maintain the popular format that was developed several years ago. A panel of judges will select the twenty best cars and each owner will receive a trophy. Although there are no classes, cars will be rated on overall appearance or presentation based on five categories typically evaluated in car shows. The judges will also select the “Best in Show” and a special trophy will be presented to the winner of that category. Prizes will be given away at the conclusion of the car show Saturday evening but entrants must be present to win.

Chamber Announces Starting Assignments for Thursdays Golf Outing

136 local and regional golfers will tee off at 11:00 AM on Thursday for the 49th Annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing. The shotgun start tournament is scheduled to take place at 11 am at Edgewood by Sand Springs in Drums, with registration beginning at 9 am, and will feature trophies, prizes and awards.

Chamber Hosting Seminars on Email Marketing for Your Business

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is hosting two seminars on email marketing. The first one will take place on Wednesday, August 24th and is entitled Automate Your Marketing. The second one will take place on Thursday, September 1st and entitled Grow Your Email List. Attendees can take part in these seminars individually or both for a discounted price.

The Automate Your Marketing Seminar help businesses to learn the difference between automated messages and autoresponder campaigns; help decide where autoresponders can help with better marketing communications; help to better understand key actions that trigger emails to be sent and also help to identify what steps to take to design effective autoresponder campaigns.

Chamber Golf Outing Set for August 18th Has Limited Space Available

Golf Outing & On-Course Business Expo Only a few openings remain for the 49th Annual Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing which will take place on Thursday, August 18th. The shotgun start tournament is scheduled to take place at Edgewood in Drums at 11 am.

Registration includes 18 holes of golf, cart, coffee, beverages and donuts prior to shotgun start, beginning at 9:30 am, on-course food, snacks and refreshments, cocktail and hors d' oeuvre reception immediately following the round of golf, buffet style dinner, hole in one contest, scoring, championship, first and second flight trophies, longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin awards, doorprizes for each golfer and more. There is also a $5000 putting contest, pot of gold contest and a 50/50 raffle which features over $2000 in prizes.

Chamber Seeking Candidates for Annual Business & Community Awards

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is now seeking nominations for their 15th Annual Business & Community Awards. The awards are given each year in order to recognize individuals and businesses, which help to promote and support the Greater Hazleton Area.

Nominations are being accepted for: Small Business of the Year; Large Business of the Year, Rocco Colangelo, Sr. Volunteer of the Year, Pride of Place, Healthy Workplace of the Year, Green Business of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

A business or individual may be nominated for an award or they can nominate themselves. Once the nomination is received by the Chamber, the nominee will be notified and asked to complete an official application. The applications are reviewed and scored by a volunteer committee, and all winners will be recognized at a special luncheon program, sponsored by Luzerne County Community College, to be held on Thursday, October 27th at 11:45 am Genetti’s in Hazleton.

Downtown Hazleton Car Cruise-In The Downtown Committee of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce has announced additional sponsors for the 2016 Downtown Hazleton Classic Car Cruise-In which will be held on Friday, August 5th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Recently, the Chamber highlighted the premier sponsorship that is provided by Hazleton Automobile Trade Association. According to Downtown chairman Bill Spear, “We are extremely grateful for the Hazleton Automobile Trade Association’s support and commitment to assist us in highlighting our area through this very visible, family friendly event.” Spear continues, “Typically over 200 vehicles participate in the Cruise each year and we expect just as many, if not more, for this year’s event.”

Chamber Women’s Empowerment Grant Deadline Approaching

The deadline of July 29th is approaching for the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking ninth annual Women’s Empowerment Grant. This grant was established to encourage women to pursue training or education that will help them start or advance a career. The target of the grant is women who are: currently working and want to advance in their career through education or training; returning to the workforce; and/or seeking to change their current career path and pursue something more in line with their
interests or passions. The grant is also intended to be available to those who would not necessarily have access to scholarships or grants. For this reason, graduating high school students will not be eligible to apply for the grant.

Cruise 2016 sponsor The 2016 Downtown Hazleton Classic Car Cruise-In will take place in Downtown Hazleton on Friday, August 5th (rain date August 12th) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Cruise-In, coordinated by the Downtown Committee of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, is sponsored by Hazleton Auto Trade Association. “The Hazleton Auto Trade Association is excited to partner with the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce for this year’s car cruise” stated Matt DePrimo of Barber Ford, president of the association. “Together the association members have had over 240 years of membership with the chamber. We understand the importance of a strong chamber in our community and look forward to the opportunity to bring a family friendly event that also represents a chance for us to showcase our individual businesses. On Cruise night, the classic vehicles enter at Church and Chestnut Streets (by the former Blue Comet Diner), make a left onto Laurel Street and then continue to Broad Street where they will immediately park between Cedar and Church Streets and will be available to the public for viewing until 9 p.m. Dash Plaques, compliments of Lehigh Tire Company, will be presented to the first 100 vehicles as well as goodie bags, donated by local businesses.
