Chamber to Host a Woman’s Luncheon on Banking Topics
The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking Committee is holding their third a series of woman’s networking luncheon programs for 2018 Tuesday, May 22nd from 12 noon to 1 pm at Vesuvio’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, located at 101 N. Wyoming Street in Downtown Hazleton. The event is being sponsored by Landmark Community Bank and it is open for any woman to attend.
The program will begin promptly at 12 noon and will include lunch. Our guest speakers are Ellen Leighton, Maria Bonin and Nicoline Evans from Landmark Community Bank who will speak on a variety of banking topics including the advantages of refinancing your mortgage at a better rate, which will decrease the term on your mortgage; advantages available to a first time home buyer; business checking accounts and how beneficial it is for a business to avoid charges to your account; investments on the return of your money and IRAs...traditional verse roth and return on your retirement funds.

This is the Chamber’s largest event of the year with well over 300 business people in attendance, up to 50 businesses taking part in the expo and over a dozen businesses participating as event sponsors. Continuing with the chamber’s legislative series, PA Senator John Yudichak, representing the 14th Senatorial District will address the business community on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce Red Carpet Breakfast program. He will discuss business and industry related news affecting the Greater Hazleton area community with a spotlight on the Luzerne County “SHINE” program. Attendees will also have the opportunity for a question and answer session at the end of his presentation. “Attracting and retaining quality manufacturing companies like IRIS, Highwood USA, and Hershey requires a collective effort centered on workforce Development. The Greater Hazleton area and its business community have embraced this approach with their unwavering support of innovative educational initiatives like the Hazleton Area Academy of Sciences, and the Luzerne County SHINE program. As a result, our students are acquiring 21st-sentgury advanced manufacturing skills, such as 3-D printing , which will allow them to compete for and secure family sustaining jobs in the future, “ said Senator John Yudichak. The 2017 Downtown Hazleton Classic Car Cruise-In will take place in Downtown Hazleton on Friday, August 4th (rain date August 11th) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Cruise-In, coordinated by the Downtown Committee of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, is sponsored by Hazleton Auto Trade Association. “The Hazleton Auto Trade Association is excited to partner with the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce for this year’s car cruise” stated Matt DePrimo of Barber Ford, president of the association. “Together the association members have had over 250 years of membership with the chamber. The Downtown Hazleton Farmer's Market will kick off its sixth year this Friday, July 14th and continue every Friday through September 1st. The market hours are 10 am to 2 pm. The market will take place at the corner of Broad and Laurel Streets along the new city park.

The Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce, along with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will once again sponsor the "Great American Cleanup” campaign. The one-day cleanup will be conducted Saturday, April 22nd. If volunteer groups cannot pick up on the 22nd, they can gather either on Friday the 21st or Sunday the 23rd. Groups are asked to leave bags along the cleaup route and PennDOT and local municipatlies will pick up the bags on Monday, April 24th. Garbage bags, safety vests, gloves a certificate of particpation and some goodies are provided to all the volunteer groups and can be picked up at the Chamber office from 8 am to 5 pm the week of April 17th.

Community Reading Day helps to promote literacy and encourage life-long reading and imagination with our next generation. That’s the message the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce is sending through its partnership in the 21st annual Community Reading Day program, supported by Penn State Hazleton. This event will be held on April 27th beginning at 9:30 a.m. in first and second grade classrooms in the Hazleton Area School District, Holy Family Academy and chamber member preschools. The chamber organizes this annual event as part of their ongoing efforts to encourage business/education partnerships.

Officials coordinating the Greater Hazleton Job Fair 2017 have announced that the event, scheduled for Thursday, March 30th has 34 businesses participating to date and there is limited space remaining for additional businesses.
